Why Austin patients book here

The city has plenty of doctors. Getting in to see one is the problem.

Austin added hundreds of thousands of residents in the last decade and roughly none of them added primary care capacity. The result is what you already know: three weeks for a new-patient appointment, two hours in an urgent care on Burnet, and a $300 bill for a four-minute conversation about a sinus infection.

Dr. Edwards practices family medicine the way it works over video. Same-day appointments, seven days a week, including evenings. UTIs, sinus and ear infections, strep, rashes, prescription refills, birth control, blood pressure and thyroid management, anxiety and depression, lab review, and ongoing primary care for people who want an actual doctor rather than a rotating cast of urgent care locums.

She is based in Austin, licensed in Texas, and in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and Aetna PPO — which matters if your plan came with your job at Dell, Indeed, Oracle, Tesla, Meta, the State of Texas, Ascension Seton, or UT.

What she can't do is hand you a lanyard and a clipboard. Everything is video. For most primary care that's not a compromise — it's the reason you can be seen at 7:40pm on a Tuesday instead of November 12th.

Labs, imaging & referrals

Blood work, scans and specialists — without booking a separate appointment for each.

A common assumption about telemedicine is that it stops at the prescription. It doesn't. Here is exactly how the parts that need a physical facility actually work.

Lab orders

Orders are sent electronically to a lab near you the same day, and you go in for the draw whenever it suits you — no appointment with us required. Results come back to Dr. Edwards, and she reviews them with you rather than leaving you to interpret a portal PDF alone.

Imaging orders

X-rays, ultrasounds and MRIs can be ordered and sent to an imaging center in your area, and the radiologist's report is reviewed in a follow-up visit. Some studies require a hands-on exam first — when that is the case, she will tell you plainly instead of ordering a scan that cannot answer the question.

Specialist referrals

When something needs a cardiologist, dermatologist, endocrinologist or surgeon, you get a referral with the clinical notes already written, so you are not re-explaining your history from scratch. Where possible she helps identify someone in your network.

Ordering authority and facility requirements vary by state, and some imaging studies require an in-person examination before they can be ordered. If a test or referral needs something this practice cannot provide, you will hear that directly — along with what to do instead.

Secure messaging

A HIPAA-compliant way to reach your doctor between visits.

Message securely, any time

Questions between appointments, prescription refills, lab results, records requests and scheduling all go through Spruce — a HIPAA-compliant messaging platform built for clinical care. No app required, and no clinical detail sitting in an ordinary text thread.

Text 830-276-2166 to start, or open the secure portal below. Messages are triaged by category so refills and records requests reach the right place instead of waiting behind everything else.

“I'm telling every single person who reads this review: if you truly want to be heard, understood, and genuinely cared for, you have found the right doctor. Dr. Edwards is not only an incredible physician, but one of the kindest and most caring human beings I have ever met. For almost three years, she has helped me manage so many different aspects of my health and my life. As a military veteran, I can honestly say I have never felt more heard or understood by a healthcare provider.”

Questions

Austin questions, answered.

Yes. This is a primary care practice, not a one-off urgent care service. She manages ongoing conditions, coordinates specialists, orders labs, reviews results with you, and handles annual preventive care — all by video, with the same physician each time.

Yes — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and Aetna PPO are in-network, along with select BCBS/Anthem plans. We verify coverage after you book and tell you your exact cost before your appointment. Medicare, Medicaid and HMO plans are not accepted.

Anywhere you can take a video call — your apartment, your office, your car. There is no physical clinic to drive to. Patients book from Mueller, East Austin, South Congress, the Domain, Zilker, Hyde Park, Westlake, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Leander, Buda and Kyle.

Same day, seven days a week, including evening slots. Most new patients are seen within a few hours of booking.

Yes — electronically, to the pharmacy you already use, the same day. That includes refills for medications you were prescribed elsewhere, provided it is clinically appropriate.

Often the $125 cash rate is cheaper than the copay plus two hours of unpaid time. If you would rather use insurance, we can bill it — and if you are out of network, we provide a superbill you can submit for reimbursement.

Yes. Lab orders go out electronically the same day to a facility near you, and you can go for the draw whenever it is convenient — no appointment with us needed first. Results are reviewed with you in a follow-up visit, and Dr. Edwards will explain what they mean and what changes, if any, they call for.

Usually, yes — imaging orders are sent to a center in your area and the radiologist's report is reviewed with you afterward. Some studies require a hands-on examination before they can be ordered, and in those cases you will be told directly and pointed toward local care rather than sent for a scan that cannot answer the question.

Yes, when it is warranted. You get a referral with the clinical notes already written so the specialist is not starting from zero, and where possible Dr. Edwards helps identify someone in your network. She will also tell you honestly when a specialist is not needed.
